NIBONG TEBAL: Pilihan Raya Kecil (PRK) Dewan Undangan Negeri (DUN) Sungai Bakap membuka tirainya hari ini dengan penamaan calon berlangsung di Dewan Serbaguna Jawi, Taman Desa Jawi, di sini.
Proses penamaan calon bermula pada jam 9 pagi dan calon diberikan tempoh sejam hingga 10 pagi untuk mengemukakan borang pencalonan.
Selepas itu, Pegawai Pengurus Pilihan Raya, Khairulnizam Hashim akan mengumumkan nama-nama calon yang layak bertanding pada jam 11 pagi.
Setakat semalam, Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR) memaklumkan enam borang pencalonan sudah pun dijual.
SPR menetapkan hari mengundi awal bagi PRK DUN Sungai Bakap pada 2 Julai ini manakala hari mengundi 6 Julai, dengan kempen akan berlangsung selama 14 hari bermula hari ini hingga 11.59 malam 5 Julai.
Pada Rabu lalu, Kerajaan Perpaduan yang terdiri daripada Pakatan Harapan (PH) dan Barisan Nasional (BN) menamakan bekas Pengarah Institut Aminuddin Baki Cawangan Utara, Dr Joohari Ariffin sebagai ‘ayam tambatan’ mereka untuk merampas kerusi DUN itu manakala Perikatan Nasional (PN) mempertaruhkan bekas eksekutif logistik yang juga Naib Yang Dipertua PAS Nibong Tebal, Abidin Ismail.
PRK DUN Sungai Bakap diadakan susulan kematian penyandangnya, Nor Zamri Latiff pada 24 Mei lepas akibat keradangan dalam perut.
Berdasarkan Daftar Pemilih Pilihan Raya setakat 24 Mei lalu, sejumlah 39,279 orang layak menunaikan tanggungjawab masing-masing pada PRK itu membabitkan 39,222 pengundi biasa dan 57 anggota polis.
Seramai 552 petugas dilantik bagi mengendali proses PRK itu manakala lebih 600 anggota polis ditugaskan untuk menjaga keselamatan.
Kerusi DUN Sungai Bakap dimenangi oleh Nor Zamri, yang juga Yang Dipertua PAS Nibong Tebal, pada Pilihan Raya Negeri Pulau Pinang Ogos tahun lalu selepas menewaskan calon PH Nurhidayah Che Rose dengan majoriti 1,563 undi.
Ini adalah PRK kelapan selepas Pilihan Raya Umum ke-15 yang sebelum ini menyaksikan PRK Parlimen Kuala Terengganu (Terengganu); PRK DUN Simpang Jeram dan PRK Parlimen Pulai (Johor); PRK DUN Pelangai (Pahang); PRK DUN Jepak (Sarawak); PRK Parlimen Kemaman (Terengganu) dan PRK DUN Kuala Kubu Baharu (Selangor). – BERNAMA
