Ketua Bomba Zon Sibu Penguasa Kanan Bomba I Andy Allie berkata panggilan kebakaran diterima pukul 2.51 pagi sebelum lima anggota pasukan Balai Bomba dan Penyelamat (BBP) Daro dengan sebuah jentera digerakkan ke lokasi kejadian.
Beliau berkata, mangsa Merais Aris, 68 tahun meninggal dunia dalam kejadian, manakala empat yang terselamat merupakan anak dan cucu warga emas itu.
“Menurut saksi, warga emas yang bekerja sebagai buruh itu dikatakan gagal keluar menyelamatkan diri semasa kejadian.
“Pasukan pemadaman menemui mayat lelaki itu di depan pintu biliknya pada pukul 5.05 pagi,”katanya.
Andy berkata mayat mangsa telah diserahkan kepada pihak polis untuk tindakan lanjut.
“Operasi pemadaman terpaksa menggunakan sumber air terbuka dari parit berhampiran berikutan pili bomba di kawasan itu tidak ada air dan operasi tamat sepenuhnya pada pukul 4.45 pagi,” katanya.
